Streamlining My Social Media Ecosystem
Introduction
In what seems to be a never-ending cycle of innovation, Meta has introduced a new application called Threads. Threads has quickly gained popularity. However, as the saying goes, all that glitters is not gold. In this article, I’m going to explore how Threads can be integrated into my existing ecosystem of apps. As part of my digital decluttering process, I’m also planning to eliminate applications that are either distracting or redundant. Let’s start by examining the apps I currently use across four categories: Productivity, Social Media, Finance, and Development.
Digital Decluttering
The challenge with having a wide array of applications and striving to stay updated with everything is that I often get overwhelmed. I find myself most distracted when I have too many communication channels to manage. It’s already challenging to manage one app that’s for sharing photos, videos, music, and text, but these days, I have to manage several.
Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook all offer different experiences and content. However, the overlap between these platforms is growing, and I want to maximize the utility I get from my day and the apps I use. I’m going to cut back, tentatively removing Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat. The reason being, I don’t find much unique value in them anymore.
Streamlining My Digital Ecosystem
My goal is to organize my digital life more effectively. To achieve this, I need to consolidate my apps and connect them in a way were they work together seamlessly. The paradigm I want to focus on for this article is the integration of “Productivity” and “Social Media”.
As a full-time employee, a startup founder, and an aspiring entrepreneur, I often find my interests sparking ideas for new projects. However, these projects often become obsessions and, once completed, are left unattended. I’ve failed on several projects, and I believe the reason is my distraction from other things when I needed to be laser-focused on growth and maintenance.
By integrating my social media with the work I do on my startup and other projects, I believe I can maintain a balance and continually nurture the development my projects need. Here’s a brief overview of my current projects and the applications that benefit me the most:
Projects (in order of priority)
- Startup One — Web builder tool
- GitLab
- GitHub
- Notion
- Asana
- Todoist
- ChatGPT
- Fiverr
- UpWork
3. Over Coffee — Medium Blog
- Notion
- Gmail
- Medium
4. Finance & Investments — Portfolio Growth
- Rocket Money
- Robinhood
- Airtable
- Apple News
- Gmail
5. Startup Two — Music sharing
- Fiverr
- UpWork
- GitHub
- Notion
- Asana
Interestingly, I’ve noticed that I don’t use social media at all for my work, and I need to start. That being said, I want to create a working paradigm that will solve the issue of working on things and sharing my work, while also making progress on my projects.
Instagram & Threads
For instance, if I conduct research for Startup One that could be turned into a Medium article, I can write a blog about that research. This not only helps me share content but also potentially monetize my time more effectively. I can then post about these Medium articles on social media platforms like Instagram and Threads.
While Instagram allows sharing links only on Stories, Threads allows embedding full articles. Both are excellent tools, but Instagram might be a more effective way to reach a broader audience and paint a more vivid picture for marketing purposes.
This seems like a good starting point, and I plan to develop more processes in the future utilizing other applications and documenting the process with these articles.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Threads and Instagram hold the potential to be powerful tools for streamlining my social media presence and enhancing productivity. By reducing my social media footprint and interconnecting various applications, I can focus better on my priorities and optimize my time. While the process of consolidation and streamlining may require some effort, the potential payoff could be significant.
